Cocky was a terrier that ate far too much and took too little excercise. He spent most of his life in a tack and feed shop getting a little extra from broken bags of animal feed and anything else left lying around, plus his regular grub. Instead of making a portrait, I pictured him as part of the daily scene, almost furniture. If he wasn't there, people would always ask where he was. He died soon after I completed the picture. Whenever I look at it, it brings back a warm memory and a resolution not to overfeed my animals.
